Honiton: TRIP’s defibrillator courses taught lifesaving skills to 50 people
Throughout April Honiton's TRIP charity has been holding defibrillator and CPR training courses across East Devon.
A defibrillator is a device used to send an electric shock to the heart in emergency cardiac situations. It can restart a heart or correct its pace. If they are used quickly on a patient, they can save their life.
There are currently 6 defibrillators in Honiton.
Sam Williams is TRIP'S Volunteer Co-ordinator. He had the idea of running training sessions on how to use a defibrillator when he walked past one in Honiton and realised that he did not know how to use it.
Sam told Nub News: "We had a great turnout at our three sessions in Honiton on Tuesday 19 April.
"As a result of the training organised by TRIP and performed by paramedic Melvyn Baldock, 50 additional people in Honiton now have the skills and the confidence in using CPR and Defibrillators and can potentially save a life.
"The feedback has been exceptionally positive with the vast majority of people attending expressing an interest in further First Aid training. This just goes to show that the people of Honiton have a great community spirit and are desperate to learn new skills that will help their local community."
There is one further course date on Monday 9 May but it is fully booked.
If you would like to attend a course in the future, please contact TRIP to register an interest by calling 01404 46529, popping into the office at 122 High Street, Honiton or emailing [email protected]
