Over the next two months Honiton charity TRIP is hosting free defibrillator and CPR training courses across East Devon.
The idea for the courses came after TRIP's Volunteer Co-ordinator Sam Williams walked past a defibrillator in Honiton and realised he had to idea how to use it.
It got him wondering how many other people in Honiton did not know how to use a defibrillator, and the idea for the course was born!
A defibrillator is a device used to send an electric shock to the heart in emergency cardiac situations. It can restart a heart or correct its pace. If they are used quickly on a patient, they can save their life.
Defibrillators can be found in towns across the country for the general public to use in an emergency situation. However, not everyone knows how to use them.
There are currently 6 public access defibrillators in Honiton plus others in neighbouring villages.
Caroline Retter is the Community Engagement Facilitator for TRIP's Volunteer 4 All. She told Nub News: "Volunteer 4 All is an exciting new project under the TRIP umbrella, a long-standing charity in Honiton.
"We are offering the free training as part of our 'Stronger Communities Together' ethos, where our local communities support each other.
"The more people that know how to access and use the defibrillators, the better for our community!"
