Honiton's Repair Cafe had a record-breaking month in February, with more visitors coming to use the service than ever before.

The Repair Cafe takes place regularly in the Community Use Building on School Lane. It was set up in 2021 by Miriam Thomas.

The next session will take place this on Saturday 18 March from 9.30am - 12.30pm.

Repair Cafes are becoming increasingly popular across the UK. They are a place to take broken or damaged electricals, toys, clothes or more unusual items and a team of volunteers is on hand to try and fix it

A particularly interesting item recently turned up at the café. Someone brought it a silver clock, which had been given in recognition of a long service to a badminton club. The clock had been inscribed with the name and a set of badminton rackets and a shuttlecock.

The team at the café were able to repair the clock. Miriam said: "It was a great small repair and enabled the widow to go on enjoying the clock for many more years."

The café also recently assisted the Honiton Museum by repairing their video equipment, saving the museum from having to make a costly replacement.

Miriam said: "Having a record-number of visitors in February was very pleasing - it is great to see we can make a difference and prevent many unnecessary items going to landfill before their time.

"We look forward to welcoming more visitors in the coming months, bringing us some challenging repairs, just for a small donation which goes towards our overheads.

"If you don't have anything to repair, you are very welcome to still pop in for a cup of tea and a slice of cake.

"Last month we were short of volunteers, so if you think you can spare a few hours to come and help repair items, that would be great."
