Vicki Harris, Sales Negotiator at Bradleys Honiton, discusses how she started working in the property industry and explains what she enjoys about her current role.

Whilst I was studying at Honiton community College, I chose Bradleys Honiton for my work experience placement. I thoroughly enjoyed all that was involved in the job and it made me consider a career in property.

I have now worked in the property industry now for five and a half years. I started as a lettings negotiator for a small firm in Somerset and worked my way up to become the lettings manager.

Whilst I enjoyed the experience I had gained in the role, I wanted to further progress my career and applied for a sales negotiator role in Bradleys Estate Agents.

As I live only 10 minutes away from Honiton, I know the area incredibly well. Being so familiar with Honiton and the surrounding villages is a very important part of my role.

I have now been with the team in Honiton for seven months and I'm really enjoying the training and progression that they offer.

I am currently at the Bradleys Academy to become a property valuer. Part of my training involves visiting houses with my manager and work colleagues, understanding a client's reasons for selling and advising on a suitable recommended guide price.

For some clients, it may have been a long time since they've moved, so it is great to be able to offer the right advice and guide them through the process to completion.

The Bradleys academy offers a useful structure starting from trainee negotiator through to - hopefully one day - managing my own office. I think it is great that an independent company is available to offer this.

My day to day work is very varied, and that is what I really enjoy about the role. A typical day could consist of answering phone calls, booking viewings, arranging property valuations, visiting houses, conducting viewings and negotiating offers. I also regularly deal with solicitors, buyers, and vendors.

The job offers huge variety and so I am always doing something different. I am a people person, so this job role really suits me.
