It has been four weeks since the owners of the Indian Cuisine restaurant on New Street were the victims of a racially aggravated assault.
The incident took place on Saturday, July 6, at around 6pm when a male reportedly made racist remarks and then assaulted Koyes Uddin and Joyes Islam. One victim received a blow to the left eye-socket and the other was bitten on the finger.
Nub News spoke to co-owner Koyes Uddin to find out how he felt one month on from the assault. He said: "I sometimes wake up in the night feeling scared.
"My four-year-old daughter is scared to go outside, and my wife wants to move away as she no longer feels safe here.
"We want to thank the local community who have supported us, we are really grateful for that.
"I'm still waiting to find out what's going on with the investigation, because until an arrest has been made me and my family feel vulnerable."
Devon and Cornwall Police Sector Inspector Lee Groves said: "Our enquiries are currently ongoing into this matter. A 24-year-old man was interviewed under caution on July 27 which is currently being progressed.
"The local neighbourhood team have visited the victim to support safeguarding and will continue to support them throughout.
"Our Response team have taken witness statements, trawled CCTV, interviewed a suspect and continue to investigate the case.
"We wish to reassure the community that officers are actively working on this incident and any criminal activity has to be investigated thoroughly."
