A new restaurant has opened on Honiton High Street and today is its first day of trading.

The owners of Mamma Mia have been busy renovating their restaurant and are "so happy" to have opened their doors to customers.

Mamma Mia is owned by Fatima De Aguiar and her husband Elvio. Fatima is the chef and Elvio will help in the kitchen as well as serve customers. Their son, Marcio, will also be front of house.

The restaurant will serve traditional Portuguese food including prawns, chicken burgers and pregos (marinated chicken breast served in a roll). Tea, coffee and cakes will also be served all day.

The family told Nub News: "We are so happy to finally be opening our doors to serve the people of Honiton our take on Portuguese flavour.

"We are looking forward to meeting locals and welcoming customers.

"When we made a decision to open our own restaurant and takeaway, we had no idea how hard it would be. It's been a hard journey with many setbacks along the way, but we are excited to finally be open.

"We will be open tonight and we already have a couple reservations."

Mamma Mia is located in a Grade II listed building where the Lacemakers Café used to be. The couple, who are from South Africa but now live in Axminster, rented the property when they saw it was available.
