This weekend is the May Bank Holiday and to coincide with VE Day celebrations the usual bank holiday, on the first Monday of May, has been moved to Friday, May 8.

In light of the Bank Holiday East Devon District Council has made some changes to its refuse collections.

If you were due to have a refuse collection on Friday, May 8, the collection will instead take place one day later on Saturday, May 9.

Fluctuating staffing levels at EDDC have meant that the council has had to prioritise certain bin collections over others.

It has prioritised food waste, rubbish and dog waste collections to protect public health.

EDDC has also suspended all Green waste collections, until further notice.

The news comes after Devon County Council announced this morning that it will be reopening Sutton Barton Recycling Centre near Honiton on Monday.

Residents displaying coronavirus symptoms, are asked not to visit the recycling centres, while only cars without trailers, with a maximum of two adults per vehicle, will be permitted on site.

To keep unloading times to a minimum, trailers, vans, pick-ups and commercial vehicles will not be granted access for the time being and payments on site must be by credit/debit card only.
