My Support and Care Services in Honiton celebrates Professional Care Workers Day

By Hannah Corfield 17th Sep 2021

My Support and Care Services, located on Honiton High Street, provides support for adults and children with additional needs.

The company, which was set up by Lesley Barker, also started the Honiton based charity - Creative Opportunities For Independence (COFI) - which provides supported employment and training for adults with learning disabilities.

With today (September 4) marking the second ever Professional Care Workers Day - organised by the National Association of Care and Support Workers (NACAS) - My Support and Care Services conducted a social media takeover for staff to have their say on the incredible work they do.

Below are some quotes taken from their Facebook page, which you can access via red button below.

Lesley: "A big thank you to everyone who has been involved in this journey of mine, whatever part you have played, large or small, it couldn't have been done without you.

Lamara: "It takes a lot of time and a lot of consideration to be in this job role. I am a voice and we have a reason, the world is changing and we are becoming more accepting and kind and I am proud to be a part of the journey work has led me to."

Chloe: "I love my job here, my role is incredibly rewarding! Empowering people to live their lives to the full gives me such a great sense of achievement and seeing the happiness in their faces when they achieve is a lovely feeling."

Sam: "Having stepped away, I soon realised my family had got smaller. That's just it, it's an extended family where you see the worst and the best. I couldn't ever not work to care for people that need me ever again. To the point I feel lucky everyday to be making a difference. Because we make a massive difference!"

Beth: "I get to support the most wonderful people with their day to day life's. They are inspiring and funny and intelligent and caring and grateful all in their own ways. And knowing that some days I make them smile and help assist them with some things makes me beyond happy."

Richard: "For me it's about watching the enjoyment in the faces of the guys when the make something and achieve things whilst working in Creative opportunities for independence!"

Teresa: "I would never have chosen this career if Autism hadn't chosen me and our family and I'm very thankful for all the knowledge his gift has given me. I started working for my support and care services 3 months ago and never looked back, it's is the most rewarding and inspiring job I will ever have."

Jane: "My job can be physically and mentally draining but I cant imagine doing anything else as I care about people and their wellbeing."

Louise: "Every smile we cause is returned on our faces, one hundred fold. Believe me, our smiles are genuine. I guess, to summarise, being a carer has made me a happier person, a more patient person, a caring person. A better person. And I thank each and every one of our individuals for doing so."

Kara: "Seeing the guys confidence build, and supporting them to reach their full potential to live their best life is the reason I do what I do! I am very lucky to work with such a fantastic team of staff and inspirational customers along with their amazing families."
