A vacant shop on Honiton High Street could become a new hot food takeaway outlet, if a recent planning application gets the go ahead.

The premises at number 96, formerly Cards & Things, has been a shop for twenty years and is a 'significant part of the High Street'.

It sits between Aromatika and Hunters Hair and Beauty, both of which are independent businesses.

Now Mr Richard Barton has submitted plans to convert the ground floor into a hot food takeaway, with an extractor fan installation.

The opening hours are given as Sunday to Thursday from 4pm - 12am and Friday to Saturday from 4pm - 1am.

This, as stated in the proposal: "Is on a par with other hot food takeaway outlets in the area, in fact Ali Kebab (opposite the shop) is open until 2.30am on Friday and Saturday."

It goes on to say: "The benefits to the local area out-weigh the current use of the property - a vacant shop with ugly 'To-Let' board on the front fascia.

"The change of use will be a significant advantage to the property - putting it back to use as a shop, bringing increased footfall to the area and creating jobs."

The application is currently awaiting decision from the East Devon District Council planning committee.
