Honiton Chamber of Commerce has elected a new chair, who takes over from Tony McCollum having dedicated the past five years to the role.

Honiton Nub News spoke to Paul Fudge about his view of the town and what his aims are for the future.

He said: "As an active member of Honiton Chamber of Commerce since I moved here several years ago, I am delighted to be elected as chair.

"After tirelessly giving over five years to The Chamber, Tony McCollum has passed the position to me.

"I'm proud of the town I live in.

"Honiton has a great mix of businesses, independents and large corporations. It's great to see how the shop keepers have embraced this time of lockdown to redecorate shop fronts and how they have worked hard in getting their retail space ready for social distancing.

"In Honiton, we are lucky, to still have our Street Market, which creates a lovely atmosphere for shoppers.

"Now, as we all move forward, we need to show our support for these businesses, we might have to give a little bit more time as we queue, but I'm sure we can all do this together and keep our High Street productive and vibrant."

As chair, Paul Fudge and the Committee will continue to represent all businesses and build on their strengths and encourage new businesses to set up in Honiton.

The group will actively promote the town's events and traditions; with its Christmas festivities, Pride of Honiton Awards, placing of the flags and look at the parking facilities and much more.

Paul continued: "I have been very much part of the community over the years and continue to do so in many different ways.

"I will always welcome any thoughts that you might have and can be contacted through the Chamber."
