Honiton Town Council is working with local artists and the Thelma Hulbert Gallery in a bid to reinvent a stretch of neglected land on the corner of Dowell Street.

Funding for the proposal would come from a sum of money that the council has secured, which is specifically designed to enhance community infrastructure within the town.

The project would see an untidy stretch of wall, along with an area of concrete and disused plant pots, completely revamped.

Discussions have taken place today (July 26), which have looked at refurbishing the flower beds; enlisting local artists to create a mural and for ways to illustrate the heritage of the old town toll gates that would have existed there hundreds of years ago.

Chairman of the Town Development Committee, Duncan Sheridan-Shaw, said: "I'm not ready to give too much away, but let's just say that we have some amazing artists in our community and we feel it's time to celebrate the traditions of our town with a mix of the modern.

"As always, we welcome suggestions and ideas about the development of Honiton and anyone who has had there interest peaked should contact me at the council offices."
