Honiton residents can win one of 20 food blenders as part of a summer campaign aimed at reducing food waste.

Between now and September, visitors can enter the free prize draw by pledging to reduce food waste, compost food waste at home or use the food waste collection available in most areas.

They can make the pledge either by clicking the red button below, or by attending the Recycle Devon stand at Honiton Show.

Each blender comes with a selection of jugs to turn fruit, vegetables and leftovers into delicious soups, sauces, marinades, smoothies and milkshakes.

Research shows that we throw away more food than we think we do. Nearly half of what we throw away is fresh fruit and vegetables, bread, dairy, rice and pasta.

Some of the common reasons for waste are buying too much, improper storage, not eating things in time and cooking too much, especially pasta and rice.

Councillor David Harvey, Chair of the Devon Authorities Strategic Waste Committee said:

"In the UK we throw away 6.7million tonnes of food a year – that's a third of the food we buy. Many Devon residents have a compost bin or food waste collection but it's far better to prevent food being wasted in the first place.

"You would might be surprised the difference small changes like planning your meals can have on the amount you throw away.

"Not only will you help to reduce food waste, it's better for the environment and your pocket. An average family could save up to £60 per month."

Winners will be contacted after the campaign ends.
