On January 5 2020, carrying 30 lbs (13.7 kilos), I will be taking on the legendary Fandance - the oldest special forces test in the world, and a most appropriate place to keep the Baton's message alive.
I was looking for something to take on for my 69th birthday, to raise funds and awareness for the Baton's ongoing work.
This will be one of the toughest events I've attempted after not being able to train all year and undergoing 16 weeks of physio - but I'm determined to complete it!
The Fandance is the original 50-year-old, gruelling 24km SAS/SBS PARA Rgt selection route.
It's staged over Pen y Fan, which at 2,900' is the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons.
I will be joining Baton Trustee, Helen Tailyour, who will also be taking on the Fandance herself carrying the Baton the day before.
If you think our effort is worth sponsoring, we are sharing the sponsorship page via the red button below and are very grateful for any donation.
Since the Baton was launched ten years ago, I have had incredible local support from Honiton especially, without it the Baton wouldn't be where it is today.
The effect has been tremendous immediate welfare support for those who need it.
How our funds have been used can be seen at www.thebaton.co.uk/welfare-support.
At first, we gave funds to other charities but as the years progressed we decided to give them direct to those who were in immediate need - often through SSAFA Devon and the Armed Forces charity caseworkers.
