Honiton Town Council: Recent spate of resignations hits six - with two confirmed in one day
Honiton Town Council is yet another member down, with confirmation of a second resignation in one day (June 8).
It brings the total number of councillors quitting within a three month period to six; with three resignations announced in the past three days.
Terry Darrant, who has served on Honiton Town Council for three years, wished to make it clear that his reasons for going are not connected to recent accusations of bullying within the town council.
He told Honiton Nub News: "My resignation has nothing to do with bullying claims currently circulating.
"I am resigning for my own personal reasons."
Terry's departure from Honiton Town Council is the latest in a string of recent resignations.
Councillor Jason Hannay resigned on May 11, joining his brother Nathan Hannay who resigned earlier this year. Deputy mayor Duncan Sheridan-Shaw resigned on April 27, James Wyatt at the weekend and Ray Hanratty earlier today.
Mayor, John Zarczynski said: "I am extremely saddened and sorry to see former Councillor Terry Darrant resign.
"However, I fully understand his reasons after being accosted by members of the public.
"He was very distressed after reading misinformation on social media and this was starting to affect his private life and he therefore felt the need to step back."
Again he addressed recent allegations of bullying at Honiton Town Council: "I challenge anybody to provide any evidence of bullying that is non-verbal."
