Review: Otter Valley Ice Cream and Field Kitchen

The Otter Valley Ice Cream and Field Kitchen is a relatively recent opening but it is already making an impression on the East Devon foodie scene, 

The family-owned restaurant, which started out as a simple ice-cream 'summer house', opened its doors in 2018. 

Situated overlooking the unspoilt Otter Valley, the stunning glass barn design is a striking addition to the Devon countryside. Despite the rural views, the restaurant is located just off the A30. 

Outside there is a patio with sheltered seating as well as benches on the large garden.

The star of the show at Otter Valley is the famous ice cream, which was named as one of the UK's best by the Daily Telegraph. Unusual flavours include Salted Caramel with Chocolate Brownie and Lemon and Lime Meringue. 

Meals are cooked to order, using the best local ingredients. Options include The Otter, an upscale interpretation of a classic fry-up, homemade Belgian waffles and poached eggs. Cakes are also available as well as hot drinks, Devon made soft drinks and milkshakes.

Woodfired pizzas are also on offer and toppings include Dumpdon Hill (beetroot, goats cheese, homemade caramelized red onion marmalade with rocket and honey), Carnivore (home cooked honey and mustard roast ham, butchers sausage, Somerset cider chorizo) and Far East Devon (spiced Lamb, shredded pickled onions, feta, on a green herb dressing base, harissa yoghurt). 

Meals are available from 9am and pizzas are served between 12 pm - 3.15pm. The Otter Valley Ice Cream and Field Kitchen is available here.
