Teacher to take pupils on a school trip to Transylvania this November

A teacher called Nadia Naive; a pupil named Elvis; various unhinged Transylvanian locals such as Dracula, Genghis and some random zombies?

This trip could only be happening in theatre-land!

Honiton Community Theatre Company brings these characters to life, along with many others, in their forthcoming production of musical comedy The Dracula Spectacula.

What's more, the entire cast is so young that only the leading man has taken any GCSEs.

Well known for its busy schedule of pantomimes, musicals and concerts - the company is now set to expand its repertoire further with Dracula, its first all-youth production.

Overseeing it are two (adult) directors, HCTC regulars; Sally Cregan and Katie Haywood.

Katie's department is choreography, while Sally's is the drama.

They collaborate on all other aspects of the show, aided by a small team of experienced colleagues.

So, why a youth production, and why now?

Sally explains: "Before we did Annie in 2017, although children were involved in the company, they usually took minor roles.

"Then, with Annie, suddenly the youth membership soared, and continues to grow.

"We can't lose that momentum now.

"After all, this is Honiton's next generation of performers."

Working on a show exclusively with younger company members allows more time to build that generation's range of stage skills, and provides the opportunity for them to forge new and lasting friendships.

But is this 'just' a kids' show?

Katie firmly disagrees: "Children work just as hard as adults – sometimes harder – and so deserve the same respect.

"Moreover, at The Beehive, these children have access to a wonderful venue that's ideal for big, professional-looking shows."

No matter how the encounter between Nadia Naive and Count Dracula plays out, what is certain is that this youthful cast is more than ready to entertain you this November with the  fun, funky, foolishly ghoulish musical - The Dracula Spectacula.

Performances will take place on Friday 1 November at 7pm and on Saturday 2 November at 2pm and 7pm.

Tickets can be purchased from the Beehive via the red button below.
