There were 54 crimes reported in Honiton in September 2022, the latest month for which figures are available.

This figure is down from July 2022, when 80 crimes were reported in Honiton.

The following is a breakdown of crimes reported in September 2022

  • ·     Violent and sexual offences – 22 offences
  • ·     Criminal damage and arson – 5 offences
  • ·     Anti-social behaviour – 12 offences
  • ·     Shoplifting – 6 offences
  • ·     Public order – 2 offences
  • Burglary – 2 offences
  • Other thefts – 4
  • Other crime – 1

It comes after Devon and Cornwall Police was moved into Special Measures after an inspection flagged up concerns.

Honiton and Tiverton MP Richard Foord told Nub News that he was not satisfied with local policing. He said: " "Across our part of Devon, far too many crimes are going unsolved, with over 1,500 cases being closed by Devon & Cornwall Police last year without a suspect being identified and only 5% of cases seeing a suspect charged.

""I support for re-opening the Honiton Police Desk, to mirror the re-opening of the desk in Tiverton, so we can give people a more visible and accessible police presence. I've been engaging constructively with senior police officers and the Police and Crime Commissioner to raise local concerns."
