A new bakehouse cafe has opened where Shauls Bakery used to be on Honiton High Street.

Jar Bakery was set up by three siblings Josh, Alex and Rosie - hence JAR - the third generation of the Charlton family who established the former Shauls business back in 1961.

Shauls closed all of its 12 shops across Devon and Somerset back in March due to coronavirus and never reopened.

Rosie explained: "We wanted to continue with artisan baking, which is in our blood, and do something new."

"A lot of the produce is freshly baked here on the premises."

Speaking about the reception in the town since reopening, she said: "It's been great. Lots of old customers have been coming in which is always nice.

"We're just trying to get the word out now and let people know we're here."

There are three newly established Jar Bakeries in the area, utilising the old Shauls premises in Sidmouth and Topsham, as well as Honiton.
