UPDATE: Three fire engines called to house fire in Honiton
Fire crews were called out following reports of a house on fire in Roundball Close, just off Honiton Bottom Road.
The incident took place yesterday evening (Oct 30) at around 6.40pm, with three fire engines from Honiton, Ottery St Mary and Sidmouth immediately mobilised after fire control were alerted.
Tanya Morgan, who lives at the property, contacted Honiton Nub News.
She told us: "There were two of us who had to be treated in hospital for smoke inhalation.
"We also have two dogs, which were in the house at the time.
"We don't know exactly how the fire started, but were told it might have been an electrical fault.
"The fact is, it was something we had no control over."
A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival one of the crews confirmed smoke and flames were issuing from the property.
"They set to work using two sets of breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet, a thermal imaging camera and positive pressure ventilation."
Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which was in the kitchen on the ground floor.
"The ground floor of the property was 10 per cent damaged by fire, and 90 per cent damaged by smoke. The first floor also had 10 per cent smoke damage.
"The cause of the fire was accidental.
"Two casualties were taken to hospital as a precautionary measure for smoke inhalation."
