The War Memorial outside St. Paul's Church has been adorned with flowers and heartfelt messages as the people of Honiton pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.

A large number of flowers have been placed on the War Memorial, including yellow roses, poppies and sunflowers. There were also drawings of the Queen, crowns and Paddington Bear.

One message read: 'We join the nation in this time of great sorrow, mourning the loss of our beloved Queen, who has served us all so well.'

Another message said: 'It has been an honour serving you, ma'am. Your duty is now done. Rest in peace with the man you love.'

One note read: 'Let her be called Elizabeth the Good.'

Another said: 'You will be missed so much, by your country and so dearly by your family. Rest in peace.'

One message thanked The Queen for her service to the country with the note: 'Thank you, ma'am, for everything.'

It comes after Honiton carried out two ceremonies yesterday (Monday 12 September) to proclaim the rule of our new King, Charles III.

Her Majesty died on Thursday 8 September. Her death was announced at 6.30pm with a message from Buckingham Palace which said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

The Queen's funeral will take place at 11am on Monday 19 September, which will be a bank holiday.
