Honiton's Hot Pennies ceremony takes place tomorrow (Tuesday, July 27) – and there is a 'huge sense of both optimism and relief' that this year – the 800th anniversary of the granting of Honiton's Royal Charter, the event that traditionally marks the beginning of 'Fair Week' - will take place again, having been cancelled last year because of Covid-19.

To celebrate both the 800th anniversary milestone and the return to a 'new normal', there will be various attractions in the build-up to the 12:00 noon start – including the judging of a children's pole decorating competition at 11am.

So when Mrs F told her CAREGiver Jo about her experiences of wartime evacuation, and memories of times well spent at a local but almost forgotten village, Jo decided that it was time to make a plan…

During her care visits to Mrs F, and alongside their daily tasks, the pair would often chat about times gone by, and the fact that for Mrs F, Devon hadn't always been home. Recently, Mrs F had been dwelling on thoughts of the Devon town to which she was evacuated as a child, with the sad impression that it was no longer there.

Honiton Community College has become the first school in Devon to benefit from grant funding from the charity RALPHH with the potential to save the lives of students, staff and visitors.

The money provided by RALPHH has been used to purchase and maintain a portable defibrillator. It will be kept in the college's Fitness Suite but is also within easy reach of the playing field and other indoor sporting area, including the gym which is used for public exercise classes outside normal school hours.
