Woz On: Weekend wins, Coronavirus and Crediton

You'll be please to hear, I have some rugby to report on this week and that's because we had a brief rest bite in the weather on Friday and Saturday.

The pitches were just about OK to play on and it only went and rained again all night on Saturday.

Our Juniors were back to running around in the mud, wind and rain on Sunday but at least they played!

On Saturday, the Ones had a big crunch game against fellow struggles Cullompton and even though we didn't have a booked lunch there was still a big crowd down, which was also boosted by a hefty away contingent as well.

'Large fellow' was out with his collection bucket again and definitely he has the skill set for this demanding job.

I say this because it's a fact that we all have to pay a fiver to go and watch at their place, which is fine but it should then be the same at Tonsville.

He was pretty persistent with what he wanted them to put in his bucket! It was a joy to watch him in action and when someone only offered 50p for their afternoon's entertainment, he was seen using his charm and wit to extract more out of them!

Oh how we wish for a gate system we could use, hey ho something else on the wish list!

Anyway on to the game, we only went and won! I must admit it was a pretty tense affair all round and despite being in charge for good parts of the game, we only secured the win in the last five minutes.

It was a good win however and as we say in rugby circles, "we did have to keep wrestling down some pretty big units."

But all said and done, it's a big win and moves us up to 10th in the 14 team league! We are however far from out of trouble and we need a few more of these wins if we are to survive the season.

The Otters were without a game ,as you know, so it was down to the Juniors who as mentioned, were just pleased to get some sort of a run out on Sunday!

I'll mention the under 9's first (aka the Diamonds) who had a couple of short games against the Withycombe 9's and they came out on top in both.

The 'parents' Facebook page has lots of pictures of "Junior" action on there if you want to have a look. The 12's and 11's both won away at their place which was great as well.

The 14's drew at their place 14-14,so that was a tough encounter. I'm now just going to say that we were unbeaten this weekend.

I would like to report on all the games, but If I don't get the info sent through I can't! Note to managers, can you post results on the Facebook page and I'll pick them up from there.

On Sunday a few friends and I watched the England-Paddy game over a cider or two and a sausage sarnie and with my 'Paddy' mate hosting.

I'm afraid he had a long afternoon of suffering. What a win it was! But I must say we're a bit hit and miss at the moment.

I'm not sure how this competition is going to pan out this season and I fear the Coronavirus is starting to gather a worrying pace! I think we will all be affected by restrictions on movement etc fairly soon.

Speaking of which, our long suffering President is in the Grand Canaries for a week's break! I've checked up on him and he's not on the island affected but you never know, he might get an extended holiday if it escalates.

I'm sure he'll enjoy just sitting in his room. Just hope he's got a sea view! He's due back at the weekend, so if and when he does surface I would suggest not kissing him for a while.

This weekend (fed up of saying it) is weather permitting. The Ones are off down deepest darkest Cornwall.

They're going to lock horns with mid table Falmouth. Yet again, it's going to be a tough ask for a result but we've been playing well recently, so let's go on down there and upset the apple cart a bit.

The Otters are at home and our sponsor friends Synergy are hosting a lunch for their gang before the game. We hope to have a good crowd present for the visit of Crediton, who will show, as they are one of the few sides you can rely on to travel away! Hope that's not famous last words.

On Sunday we have the 14's and 13's at home and they take on Chard. Kick off is at 11am.

The 7's, 9's, 10's ,11's and 12's are away at Chard and the 8's have a festival at Wellington.

Clare is opening up the club on Friday night for the Makaton singers if you want to come down.

That's about it from me for this week. No more personal ads; I got told off about that last week, but just so you know it's 23 days to go before I'm an ex civil servant!
