Deputy Leader of Lib Dems says ‘momentum is building’ as they call for emergency investment in Devon healthcare
The Deputy Leader of the Liberal Democrats was in Devon this week and she is confident that they are the only party who can beat the Conservatives.
The constituents of Tiverton and Honiton will go to the polls on Thursday June 23 in a by-election triggered by the resignation of Neil Parish.
Yesterday Daisy Cooper joined the Liberal Democrat candidate Richard Foord on the campaign trail and together they visited Tiverton Hospital.
Daisy is the Health spokesperson for the Liberal Democrat party. It was revealed last week that Honiton and Tiverton have the longest ambulance waiting times in Devon.
Daisy said: "It's clear from knocking on doors and speaking to hundreds of people here that momentum is building for Richard Foord and the Liberal Democrats and that people are backing our positive vision for the area.
"People are looking to the Lib Dems for real change for this part of Devon. They are fed up with being taken for granted by the Conservatives who have failed to support local health services.
"We're hearing on door after door that residents want to send a message to the Conservatives and they know only the Liberal Democrats can beat them here."
Richard Foord is the party's candidate. He is a former army major who lives in Uffculme with his wife and children.
He said: "It was great to welcome Daisy to Tiverton and Honiton today, together we set out our plan to fix this crisis so that you can be sure an ambulance will arrive when you need one.
"We are calling for more investment in local ambulance services, an urgent campaign to recruit more paramedics and enabling trusts to restore community ambulance stations in rural areas where they need them.
"Momentum is with the Liberal Democrats in this election and one thing is clear, only we can beat the Conservatives and get real change for our area."
In addition to Foord, there are a further seven candidates standing in the by-election.
They are Jordan Donoghue-Morgan (Heritage Party), Andy Foan (Reform UK), Liz Pole (Labour), Helen Hurford ( Conservative), Frankie Rufolo (The For Britain Movement), Ben Walker (UK Independence Party) and Gill Westcott (Green Party).
