An 8-year-old boy who attends Littletown Primary School is raising money for the children's ward at RD&E.

Jas Bala will play the keyboard outside St. Paul's Church in Honiton for two hours. He will be joined by his friend Gabi, who is also in Year 3 and three other friends who will help run the raffle.

His four-year-old twin sisters, Stasia and Hania, will also come along to support their big brother.

Jas's mum Renata spoke to Nub News about her son's efforts and his interest in music. She said: "Jas has always loved music. He started his piano lessons when he was just 6 years old.

"He played the piano publicly for the first time at the Whimple Music Festival last year - and he won!

"Jas enjoys watching people on the street playing music, and this is where the inspiration came from.

"He said he was going to play music in a recital and when I asked him what he would do with the money, he said he would donate it because he didn't need it.

"His dad Joe and I are both extremely proud of him. He has a heart of gold - he is always kind and helpful, both in and out of school. It is his first fundraising event and I bet it won't be his last!"

Renata and Jas researched a few charities and settled on the children's ward at RD&E, which had been fundraising to create a calm and welcoming space on their ward.

Renta is Polish and her partner Joe, who is Hungarian, have lived in Honiton more than ten years ago. Joe is Head Chef at the Lordleaze Hotel in Chard.

On the day, Jas will be helped by his friend Gabi, who is in Year 3, who will play a song with him.

Other Littletown friends will be helping to run the raffle - Amelia (Year 6), Emilia (Year 5) and Maciek (Year 4). Local businesses have donated the prizes.

The music recital will take place on July 1 from 1pm - 3pm outside St. Paul's Church, Honiton High Street.
