The improvement of the Butt's Close children's play area is under way.

Contractors working for East Devon District Council (EDDC) have started improvement works at Butt's Close, forming part of the council's investment in play areas.

The finished product will include a multi play unit, a ground level trampoline, swing pod and balancing equipment.

The new equipment was chosen after the council asked local school children and youth groups what they would like to see installed in the play area.

The builders are currently removing an old perimeter fence and installing a new green fence and then they will begin renovating the interior of the park.

The work is expected to take about three weeks to complete.

The Butts Close site is part of a wider EDDC scheme which will see £283,000 invested in upgrading play sites across the district.

After the work in Honiton is complete. EDDC will begin renovating Greenway play area in Budleigh Salterton and the Crescent play area in Exmouth.

Councillor Geoff Jung, EDDC's Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country and Environment, said: "It's great to see contractors on site and I am sure the new equipment will prove popular with children and their families.

"I am proud EDDC is investing in our communities, and I look forward to seeing the facilities being well used in the years to come."
