Honiton Primary School putting systems in place to support their poorest children
The cost-of-living crisis has pushed many local families into poverty and Honiton Primary School and its Headmaster are offering them as much support as it can.
Spiralling energy bills and an increase in the price of food and other items is leading to more families experiencing financial pressures. The rising costs are also affecting businesses and schools.
Honiton Primary School and its governors are monitoring the local and national environment to establish how their families and pupils will be affected, both in the short and the long term.
Mr Tribble is the Headmaster of Honiton Primary School. He told Nub News: "In the aftermath of a pandemic, education must be a priority for the nation's future prosperity.
"I hope that the Government grasps the importance of schools, the position they hold and the significance of the impact education has on successive generations.
"To make an impact, we need proper funding, adequate resources, the end of the recruitment crisis and we need to be open."
The school has put systems in place to help its families through the cost-of-living crisis as best it can.
The school receives Pupil Premium Grants, and these grants are now being used to target the most pressing needs of the school's pupils. It is used to cover essentials such as food, clothing and wrap around care.
In addition this, Honiton Primary School has set up a uniform and shoe bank to help alleviate the need for parents to shop for these expensive items.
Members of the pastoral team at the school are spending more and more time advocating for the poorest families in Honiton. This advocacy covers a range of activities but includes assisting parents to access additional support and helping them navigate confusing government systems.
