The Honiton branch of the British Legion has started a scheme to create walled gardens for veterans.

Honiton British Legion have taken over the raised flower bed in New Street which will be decorated with plaques in memory of loved ones who lost their lives serving in the military.

Commemorative plaques will be available for families to purchase and will be placed on the wall. Some plaques have already been bought and will soon be in situ.

The plaques cost £40 each, and £11 of that money will go directly to the Honiton British Legion branch to help with the upkeep of the garden and wall.

Richard Harker is the Chairman of the Honiton British Legion. He told Nub News: "We decided to create a veterans wall in Honiton as so many people go unmentioned.

"It's nice for families to have a special place to go and remember them for the service they gave.

"If anyone in the East Devon area has a family member that has passed away and served in the British military then they can purchase a plaque and have it added to our garden."

Earlier this week the Honiton British Legion received a £500 donation from Tesco to help fund their summer BBQ.
