An Ottery resident who will jump out of a plane - with 19 friends - in aid of Hospiscare has been 'blown away' by the support she has received.

Pam Joy and her friends are members of La La Choir, which is helping to raise money for Hospiscare. Pam and 19 other members of the group hope to sing all the way to the ground from 15,000ft.

The brave group will be taking part in a skydive on May 7 at Dunkeswell Airfield.

The fundraising initiative for the whole group - named the La La Leapers - has raised an astonishing £10,515.

La La Choir has chosen to support Hospiscare as their charity of choice and joined Hospiscare 40 Club, pledging to raise a minimum of £1,000.

This year, Hospiscare will celebrate its 40th birthday with a host of events and celebrations.

Pam is also part of local Hospiscare fundraiser group Otter Vale Friends of Hospiscare, who work together to raise money for the Devon-based charity.

The group undertake a range of activities to generate much-needed funds, including baking cakes, growing plants, organising bingo nights, running fetes and helping out at local events.

Pam said: "I am a volunteer for Hospiscare as several of my friends and neighbours have received the care, support and love which Hospiscare provides at the end of someone's life. Hospiscare cares for the patient and the whole family."

She has been blown away by the support she has received and has already raised an incredible £1,215 - surpassing her £500 target with two weeks still to go.

" I am looking forward to the day. I have been sponsored by so many people and I am very grateful for all the support - it has been overwhelming.

"We live in a very caring community who support Hospiscare and the fundraising we do."

Toni Hiscocks is East Devon's Hospiscare Fundraiser. She is delighted that so many of the choir will be undertaking the challenge. She told Nub News: "Pam wants to help secure the future of this local charity as it's very close to her heart.

"It's a difficult time for everyone, but if you can show your support and donate that would be amazing."

You can make a donation to Pam's fundraising cause here or via the Ottery Hospiscare shop – please place your donation in an envelope with your details including name and address clearly marked Pam Joy –Skydive.
