Hospiscare organises a host of spring and summer events
Hospiscare is organising a bumper spring of events this year.
Devon-based Hospiscare is a charity which provides end-of-life care to terminally ill patients. It also supports their families through what is always a difficult time.
Hospiscare relies on donations from the public and gifts in people's wills and many local people choose to raise money for the cause.
Recent Hospiscare fundraising initiatives include two friends who work together at Otter Garden Centres jumping out of an aeroplane, Ottery St. Mary's Coffee Bank pledging to raise more than £1,000 for the charity in 2023 and Honiton mum-of-two undertaking a multi-maraton challenge in memory of her mum.
Hospiscare will host four events in the next few months to help raise vital funds.
On April 23 Hospiscare and the Women's Institute has organised a Coffee Morning, a Table Top Sale and a fantastic event in Upottery - Pimms, Picnic and Party.
On May 20, The Institute in Ottery St. Mary will host Hospiscare's Bumper Plant Sale. Earlier this year an appeal was issued to anyone who is able to grow or donate plants for the event.
Toni Hiscocks is East Devon's Hospiscare Fundraiser and she has worked for Hospiscare since 2014. Toni spoke to Honiton Nub News about the importance of local fundraising events.
"Help us celebrate and pop along to one of our many events across East Devon, helping us to raise vital funds for your end of life charity Hospiscare.
"It's been such a difficult couple of years, let's support these events and bring the community back together again!
"Many people think that we are a national charity, but Hospiscare is a local charity covering Exeter, Mid and East Devon.
"Hospiscare is not part of the NHS and our service is free to our patients. However, it currently costs £8 million each year to run our service and we have to raise 82% of this within our local community, the rest coming from NHS funding.
"Hospiscare needs to continue to raise money, which is especially vital in these uncertain times, ensuring our service continues into the future.
"Hospiscare needs the support of the community and the community needs the expertise support of our Specialist Community Nurses to continue to deliver care for the future!"
