Ottery’s Coffee Bank aims to beat last year's fundraising success for Hospiscare - starting with the Great West Run
Two members of staff from The Coffee Bank will be taking part in a series of events this year to raise money for Hospiscare.
The family-friendly café in Ottery St. Mary is part of the 40 Club, where each member tries to raise £1,000 for the charity across the year.
The Coffee Bank has already raised £350 so the café hopes to exceed the £1000 target. In 2022, The Coffee Bank raised £2500 in 10 months.
In May, Louise Jones, who is the owner of the café, will run 13.1 miles in the Great West Run with her Coffee Bank colleague Susie Curtis.
Louise told Nub News: "We hope to raise £1000 for Hospiscare this year and at the end of month 1 we already have raised £350!
"We have events planned each month of the year to smash that target!"
Louise will be running with a number of friends, including Ottery Cobbler Rick Arthur.
Also taking part are members of The Sounds Choir, Ellie Williams and Anna Morgan. The choir is an all-abilities adult choir which rehearses in The Coffee Bank on Thursday evenings.
Louise continued: "We want to support Hospiscare again this year as we have all been touched by cancer within our families, some using the wonderful services within Hospiscare.
"The services that provide so much support and care at end of life were at risk of losing local services and needed to raise £40,000 plus to keep providing this care within East Devon, so each of the 40 businesses pledged to raise £1000 but we want to smash that as we did last year."
