Mother and daughter walk 26 miles for Honiton Community Theatre Company

By Kate Baxter 1st Sep 2022

Sarah Ryerson and her daughter Willow (16) did a sponsored walk on Tuesday 30 August in aid of Honiton Community Theatre Company.

The pair walked 26 miles from Sidford to Exeter Quay, via the coastal path from Sidmouth to Exmouth. From there, they joined the Exe Estuary path to Exeter.

Sarah said: "We both love walking and have been doing longer coast and countryside walks together for several years.

"We decided at the start of the year to try to challenge ourselves to walk a marathon distance in a day and chose this route as it included some of our favourite parts of the coast path."

Sarah said that they really enjoyed the walk: "What a fantastic day for it!

"43km walked, a sunrise, gorgeous scenery, great company and a well-deserved pizza by the cathedral.

"Thank you to all who sponsored us to raise money for Honiton Community Theatre Company.

The Honiton Community Theatre Company (HCTC) is an inclusive not-for-profit community group who perform regular shows at The Beehive. They usually put on a pantomime in February and then other plays, musicals and variety shows throughout the year.

The group has about 70 members who take part in plays and performances, write lines and help in the wings.

Willow is a member of the group and has participated in many of their shows. She wanted to help support HCRC so they could continue their work in bringing the community together.

Willow said: "I have been part of the group for five years and I have benefitted so much from the opportunity to be involved in performing.

"HCTC is an all-inclusive group who bring out the best talent in their members, particularly the youth section.

"They have, like many of the arts, suffered during Covid and we wanted to give something back to them to help ensure they can continue their fantastic work in the future."

Willow has set up a JustGiving page and you can make a donation here.
