Richard Foord MP has declared that he 'no confidence' in either of the Conservative Party leaders.

The results of the leadership contest will be announced on later today.

Rishi Runak and Liz Truss are both standing to be the leader of the Conservative Party after Boris Johnson's resignation earlier this summer.

Mr Sunak is the former Chancellor of the Exchequer and Mrs Truss is the incumbent Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

Despite winning more votes from Conservative MPs, Mr Sunak is expected to lose to Mrs Truss, who is more popular with party members.

11 MPs initially ran to replace Mr Johnson and this number was then reduced by Conservative MPs voting for their preference. Over the past few weeks, the candidates have attended 12 official hustings. Members of the Conservative Party have been casting their votes and the deadline was 5pm on Friday 2 September.

Richard Foord spoke to Nub News about the forthcoming change of leadership. "Throughout this unedifying leadership contest, we've seen Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss lambast each other - and tear strips off their own record in Government too.

"Both have been quick to disavow policies they've spent months defending and are not offering new ideas to help our country through the crisis we're facing.

"Neither has set out robust plans to tackle the cost-of-living crisis, help people with their soaring energy bills this winter, or tackle the NHS backlogs and record ambulance waiting times that are leaving people across the West Country waiting hours in agony.

"I don't see how we're supposed to trust them. I have no confidence in either to be the leader of our great country; no matter who wins next week, our communities lose.

"That's why I will be doing all I can to hold the Conservatives to account. I'll continue to offer positive suggestions - such as scrapping the energy price cap rise and cutting fuel duty for rural areas - that would deliver real help to those struggling across our part of Devon."
