Honiton Carers were the recipients of an anonymous donation this week and they would like to find the mystery couple who acted with such generosity.
The Honiton Carers is a support group for unpaid carers. They meet regularly in and around Honiton for a range of activities. They are one of the Co-op's Community Causes.
On Saturday 13 August the group were in Lyme Regis for a walk and a coffee.
They were enjoying coffee and cake in The Royal Standard, a historic pub, when they had an incredible surprise: an anonymous couple who were in the restaurant had left £40 behind the bar for the group to enjoy.
The couple did not say anything to the group and left without acknowledging what they had done.
Winnie Cameron has been the leader of Honiton Carers since 2014. She told Nub News: "I think we were all gob smacked - for the lack of a much more appropriate word!
"I always get embarrassed when I cannot thank people for their generosity, but the group were thrilled to bits and of course we all agree it is a wonderful act of kindness that is so very much appreciated.
"We shared it with Devon Carers today and they too thought it was wonderful."
The group were stunned to be told by the barman that they had been given the money. Members were able to enjoy additional food and drink, and there was even £9 left over for Honiton Carer general funds.
Pam Staunton was at the event on Saturday. She lives in Offwell and been a member of Honiton Carers for since 2019. Pam joined the group after seeing a Honiton Carers information stall in the Spar. She cared for her husband Terry, who had Motor Neurone Disease. She is now a Carer Ambassador for Devon Carers
Pam said: "I got talking to the couple in the pub in Lyme Regis and I told them what a very special group it was, that we are all carers or ex-carers and that we were having a lovely afternoon out.
"Their generosity was overwhelming and it would be wonderful if they could be told how much it meant to us."
Winne added: "Honiton Carers would love to be able to thank this couple, so if you hear someone speaking about our wonderful treat, please do tell them how thrilled we were and thank them on our behalf."
The donation was made at approximately 3.45pm on Saturday 13 August in the Royal Standard.
