Honiton: Family Church joins Warm Space initiative
The Honiton Family Church is to open its doors as a 'Warm Space'.
The church joins The Beehive, CUB and Honiton Library in offering a place where people can come and warm up if they are experiencing fuel poverty, or they would simply like to socialise and come for a cup of tea.
The volunteers at the Family Church are hoping that Ukrainian families who are living in the area might also attend.
The Warm Welcome sessions are run by volunteers. Visitors will be given a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits. There are hopes to serve free meals, such as jacket potatoes, in the future.
Patricia Bowerman volunteers at the Family Church. She told Nub News: "The Warm Welcome initiative came about because of the rise in energy costs and a considerable number of Honiton residents already struggling.
"Earlier this year, the Honiton Family Church collected items for the Ukrainian people and transported them to the borders. I am aware we have refugees from the Ukraine in Honiton but not aware what places are available for them to socialize, both so they can meet one another and integrate into the community."
Patricia used to teach Art as Therapy in Taunton to abused women and for women who relocated to Taunton from India. She is running a Creative Café Felting Workshop on the second Tuesday of each month. You can find out more here.
The Family Church Warm Space is on Fridays from 10am – 12pm. Everyone is welcome.
