A new café has opened at Honiton train station and it will be open from 6am to serve commuters.

Wilson and Bay Coffee Club was officially opened this week by Andrew Ardley, Regional Development Manager for South Western Railway (SWR), the company responsible for operating rail services through East Devon.

Honiton's Station Manager Tim Mears and Honiton Town Councillor Jenny Brown were also at the launch. Cllr Brown's responsibilities as a member of Honiton Town Council include Arts, Culture and Heritage and the Economy, and she is also the link councillor for The Friends of Honiton Station

On board catering has not been available on local trains since the pandemic, so the café should prove popular. On its opening day there was already a good stream of customers.

Wilson and Bay Coffee Club will serve a wide range of beverages, plus a selection of pastries, baguettes and sausage rolls.

The Chairman of the group Friends of Honiton Station was also present. He said: "We are delighted to welcome Jonathan, Rachel and their colleagues to Honiton Station.

"The new Wilson and Bay coffee shop will be a great addition to our wonderful station. Passengers have been asking for some time now for such a facility to be opened.

"We are grateful to everyone who has worked so hard to bring this about, and we wish the new business every success."

Once the coffee shop gets into full swing, opening hours are planned to be from 6 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Mondays to Fridays, and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, but for the first two weeks it will close at 2pm.

Plans are also being made to open on Sundays, with the eventual aim to be open between 9.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. with the final opening hours depending on demand.
