Honiton: Operation Rudolph to be based at the CUB
Operation Rudolph has joined forces with the Community Use Building (CUB) to reach more people in the community.
The Operation Rudolph, which is run by Sharon Thorne as part of her Community Interest Group, Inspiring Connections, will now be based at the CUB and will hold its Christmas meal there.
Operation Rudolph, which will host its fourth meal this December, is an annual event which hosts a Christmas meal for the community, distributes meat boxes for festive meals and donates presents for children and adults.
A number of fundraising events take place throughout the year and in the run-up to Christmas to secure funds and donations.
Last November more than 100 presents were donated at an event at Deer Park.
In 2022, Operation Rudolph helped over 900 people, a number which is expected to increase this year.
The coming together of two of Honiton's most well-known charitable entities has been welcomed.
Mike Jones of the CUB told Nub News: "We initially agreed to hosting the Operation Rudolph lunch and then Sharon, whose organisation fundraises for us, asked if the CUB could be their base.
"Operation Rudolph fits with our vision of being Honiton's community hub and so we readily agreed and are very pleased."
Sharon said: "When we spoke with Mike he immediately made us feel welcome, wanting to help us make the space work.
"When you see the number and range of groups the CUB supports it makes you realise what a great building and community space it is. Hidden away, a tad tired but full of heart!
"The recent successful fundraising for the roof/windows is just part of the journey for this space, and their plans are very much what the growing community of Honiton needs."
The permanent work space will enable Operation Rudolph to plan their events better and provide somewhere for people to drop in to speak to Sharon.
"This will be Operation Rudolph's fourth year supporting our communities - a true community-led and delivered project".
