Honiton: Pig at Combe wins tourism award
The Pig at Combe has won a Gold award at the Devon Tourism Awards.
The hotel is part of The Pig national chain and is located in the village of Gittisham, which is just outside of Honiton.
The Pig at Combe won Gold in the Small Hotel category.
It comes after local restaurant The Coldharbour Field Kitchen also won Gold at the same award ceremony. The owners of the Field Kitchen said: "We're totally over the moon to win the gold award for Casual Dining – to be honest it was a real surprise and we almost couldn't believe it!"
The Pig at Combe is an Elizabethan manor house which used to be the Combe Hotel. It became part of The Pig chain in 2016.
The award-winning hotel is open to non-guests for drinks, pizzas and formal meals. It also has an extensive Kitchen Garden which is available to wonder around.
Gittisham Parish Council is currently resisting an East Devon County Council proposal to build a large housing estate between Combe Garden Centre and the the village, citing irreversible damage to the unique setting of Gittisham (which is also a village of significant historical interest) and a plethora of practical concerns, such as lack of services including schools and doctors, increased traffic on small lanes, exacerbating existing flood and sewage problems and the high cost of building the necessary infrastructure for the homes.
