In the coming weeks Honiton Town Council will ask interested parties to send in their applications to become a town councillor.

David Munge resigned from the council in May 2022 and as a result there is a vacancy.

If only one person decides to stand, they will be elected without contest but if there is more than one application there will be an election, which will take place on August 25.

The past year has seen many comings and goings of members of the council. In January seven members resigned en masse, including the mayor. In March 2022 four new members were voted in after an election, and three new councillors joined uncontested.

Cllr Serena Sexton was recently elected chairperson and town mayor.

Cllr Helen Hurford  stood in last week's Tiverton and Honiton by-election and came second to the Liberal Democrat's Richard Foord.
